Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role within InterMed?

My name is Mary Koutsoumbis, and I am an Associate Marketing Manager at InterMed. In my role, I work closely with each business unit across Australia to develop tailored marketing strategies that align with their goals. I collaborate with our marketing specialists to ensure these initiatives are executed effectively and supporting the overall business.

How long have you worked at InterMed?

I’ve been with InterMed for two years, though part of that time includes my experience prior to the AMSL acquisition. I’ve enjoyed being a part of the company so far and being a part of its growth.

What does a typical day as an Associate Marketing Manager look like?

No two days are the same, but I typically start by focusing on strategic planning, aligning on key projects, and reviewing campaign performance metrics. I work closely with business leads to understand customer needs, create engaging content, and oversee the execution of campaigns.

What advice can you offer to other Associate Marketing Managers who are just starting?

Stay curious, adaptable and open-minded. Marketing is always evolving, so be open to learning new tools and strategies. Build strong relationships with your sales teams – they are invaluable in understanding the customer journey. Lastly, don’t be afraid to seek feedback; it’s one of the fastest ways to grow.

How do you like to spend your time when you aren’t working?

When I’m not working, I stay active and energised by lifting weights – I’ve even competed in a few powerlifting competitions – swimming and exploring new creative projects. I also enjoy connecting with people, trying great food, and making the most of my downtime.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?

“Lead with intention.” This advice has helped me focus on prioritizing tasks that align with my goals, both professionally and personally. It reminds me to work smarter, not harder.

What are your favourite things about working at InterMed?

The collaborative culture stands out the most. I also love working on projects that directly improve patient outcomes – it’s fulfilling to know our work makes a real difference. Plus, I’m fortunate to work with a supportive and talented team.

What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

  1. The power of clear communication—it fosters trust and ensures alignment.
  2. The importance of adaptability—things don’t always go as planned, but being flexible or always having a plan B helps you find solutions.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

If I could learn to do anything, I’d love to explore something active or adventurous, like gymnastics, windsurfing, or even scuba diving—though I’d need to work through the nerves on that one! I’m also drawn to the idea of learning another language, as it’s such a valuable skill for connecting with others.

How do you define success?

Success, to me, is about growth and impact. It’s not just about achieving goals but also about learning along the way and positively influencing the people around me.
