Meet Angelique de Jong

We chatted with Angelique, our Regenerative Medicine Sales Manager, to learn more about her day-to-day activities, the important lessons she has learned along the way and how Angelique defines success.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role within InterMed?
I am a first generation NZ’er, from good European stock, living in paradise – NZ. My business card tells me I am a Sales Manager for Regenerative Medicine in NZ and in Australia.

How long have you worked at InterMed?
Since the 1st February 2024. Prior to that I was the Regenerative Medicine Division Manager for NZMS and AMSL for the last 18 years.

What does a typical day as a sales manager look like?
Planning, phone calls, Teams meetings, Zoom calls, emails, texts, running up and down stairs checking on stock, orders and processes, driving the marketing team mad and looking for ways to put a positive spin on all challenges.

What advice can you offer to other sales managers who are just starting?
Put new contacts into your phone there and then so you know who to call next time. Schedule in regular catch ups with your team, as time moves so fast and before you know it it’s been another month. If all else fails, provide chocolate to pave the way for collaboration.

What’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever been given?
“You cannot direct the wind, but you can adjust the sails” T.S.Monson

Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.
Seeing individuals in my team reach levels of achievement they never thought possible, has always been the success story that makes me proud.

What are your favourite things about working at InterMed?
The people and the history.

What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?
Not everyone is cut out to be a manager. NZ is a small place so always refrain from being negative about the competition – you may be selling their products tomorrow. You can’t sell a secret.

How do you like to spend your time when you aren’t working?
Sailing, walking my dog through forests and along beaches, catching up with family and volunteering as a trapper in a scientific reserve.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
How to play the piano properly

How do you define success?
Looking yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and saying” job well done” & seeing others develop to their fullest potential

What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Train ride through the Canadian Rockies
